Please join us on Thursday, February 26, at 6:00 p.m. at the Alta Club. We are honored to welcome Walter J. Plumb  III, one of our own Timpanogos Club members, as our speaker for the evening.
Walter J. “Walt” Plumb III is a longtime Utah attorney, businessman, and real estate developer with decades of experience spanning law, entrepreneurship, and civic engagement. Throughout his career, he has worked in private legal practice, partnered with prominent leaders, and built and managed businesses in both real estate and consumer products—developing a deep understanding of the intersection of law, markets, and public policy.
In addition to his professional work, Walt has been actively involved in community and public issues, contributing his time, resources, and perspective to causes he believes in strongly.  He is known for being thoughtful, candid, and willing to engage meaningfully with complex subjects. We are grateful to have him join us to share insights and experiences.

January 22, 2026 Club Meeting

We are honored to have Dr. Mark Ott, the Dean of the College of Medicine at Brigham Young University, as our esteemed guest speaker for the evening. He is an American physician and surgeon who is serving as the inaugural Dean of the Brigham Young University School of Medicine. He was appointed to this role in October 2024 and is charged with leading the development and launch of BYU’s new medical school, including its curriculum, accreditation, faculty recruitment, and overall strategic direction.
Dr. Ott is a distinguished leader in medical education, renowned for his dedication to advancing both clinical excellence and innovative research. His career is marked by a commitment to cultivating the next generation of healthcare professionals, fostering an environment where academic rigor meets compassionate care. Under his leadership, the College of Medicine has seen remarkable growth in both educational opportunities and groundbreaking medical research initiatives.
Dr. Ott’s contributions extend beyond the administrative realm, reflecting his passion for mentoring students, supporting faculty development, and championing community health initiatives. His insights into the evolving landscape of medical education and healthcare delivery are both thought-provoking and inspiring. We are privileged to have him share his expertise, experiences, and vision for the future of medicine.

November 13, 2025 Club Meeting

We are excited to have Royal Hansen, Jr. address us for our November club meeting. He is the Vice President of Privacy, Safety, and Security at Google Alphabet.  In this critical role, Mr. Hansen leads the central engineering function that builds and scales the foundational technology protecting billions of users around the world, tackling everything from cybersecurity threat detection to advanced privacy-enhancing techniques.
Prior to joining Google, Royal built a deep foundation in financial-services cybersecurity, with leadership roles at American Express—where he was Executive Vice President of Enterprise IT Risk and Information Security—then at Goldman Sachs as Managing Director of Technology Risk and Application Security, and earlier still at other firms including Morgan Stanley and Fidelity Investments.

October 23, 2025 Club Meeting

We are honored to have Kurt Dirks, the new Dean of the David Eccles School of Business at the University of Utah, address us.  Dean Kurt Dirks is a distinguished scholar and academic leader with a remarkable record of research and service. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota and previously served as Vice Chancellor and Interim Dean at Washington University in St. Louis, where he played a key role in elevating the Olin Business School’s national and global profile. An internationally recognized expert on leadership and trust in organizations, Dean Dirks has advised Fortune 500 companies and published extensively in leading academic journals. We’re delighted to have him share his vision for the future of the Eccles School.

September 25, 2025 Club Meeting

It is our great pleasure to welcome as our speaker Coach Alex Jensen. a true Utah basketball legend and the recently appointed 17th head coach of the Runnin’ Utes.

Alex Jensen’s impressive basketball journey began with a standout high school career at Viewmont, culminating in a state championship and Utah Mr. Basketball honors. At the University of Utah, he achieved significant success under Rick Majerus, including four conference titles and four NCAA Tournament appearances, highlighted by a trip to the 1998 National Championship game.

Following his college career, Jensen played professionally and transitioned into coaching, with notable stints at Saint Louis University, the Canton Charge, and the Utah Jazz, where he spent a decade developing players and contributing to six consecutive playoff appearances. He then returned to his alma mater after a brief period with the Dallas Mavericks.

Beyond his collegiate and professional playing and coaching experience, Coach Jensen also boasts international coaching credentials.  He served as an assistant with the German National Team and as head coach for Team USA at the 2022 FIBA AmeriCup.  His return to the University of Utah marks a homecoming and an exciting new chapter for the Runnin’ Utes program.  He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the head coaching position, having worked with some of the best players and coaches in the game.

May 22, 2025 Club Meeting

Bring your wife or guest and enjoy a delicious buffet after which  Michael Stevens’ talented family will treat us to a wonderful musical performance. We’re delighted and very fortunate to have them entertain us.  The night’s musical performance will include Michael Steven’s daughter Michelle, his granddaughter Jessica, his grandson Jeffrey, and Jeffrey’s wife Halley. They are all professional performers having taken many leading roles in musical theatre.  Jessica was Belle in “Beauty and the Beast” this year for the Hale Center Theatre in Sandy. Michelle, Jeffrey, and Halley were in the production of Cinderella at the new Hale Center Theatre in Pleasant Grove where Michelle was the fairy godmother, Jeffrey was the Prince, and Halley was Cinderella.

April 24, 2025 Club Meeting

It is our distinct honor to have Mr. Roger H. Thompson as our speaker, who will present the topic, “Rise like Phoenix — a True Story of How a Disaster Turned Into an Opportunity.”

A Salt Lake City native, Roger graduated from Yale University in 1964 with a Bachelor of Arts in History and earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Utah’s S.J. Quinney College of Law in 1967.  As co-owner, executive vice president, and general counsel of TM Equities Inc., he oversees a portfolio of approximately 5,000 apartment units across five states. Beyond his professional achievements, Roger has served as Vice President of the Salt Lake City Board of Education and as a member of the Salt Lake City Council.  He and his late wife, Colleen, raised seven children and are proud grandparents of 30 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. In 2021, Roger married Mary Ann Gilmore Creer, and together they continue to engage in community and charitable activities.

March 27, 2025, Club Meeting

Michael H. Stevens, M.M., M.D., Emeritus Professor of Otolaryngology and former Assistant Dean at the University of Utah School of Medicine, will be speaking about Ludwig van Beethoven’s deafness and the groundbreaking discoveries that have emerged in recent years. Dr. Stevens is a distinguished musicologist and expert in classical music history who has extensively researched this topic, exploring various hypotheses for Beethoven’s hearing loss, including otosclerosis, autoimmune disorders, syphilis, Paget’s disease, and lead poisoning.  He has six children, and 23 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. He enjoys playing the piano, organ, singing, skiing and golf.

February 27, 2025, Club Meeting

We are delighted to have Laura Paulsen Howe,  Art Curator at the Church History Museum, as our speaker on Thursday, Feb 27th.  Laura began working as the Art Curator at the Church History Museum in 2019.  She has curated the 12th International Art Competition: “All Are Alike unto God” and “With This Covenant in My Heart: The Art and Faith of Minerva Teichert.” She authored a chapter on the history of international art competitions at the Museum of Church History and Art, which was published in Latter-day Saint Art: A Critical Reader in 2024 by Oxford University Press.  Please join us for a wonderful dinner, good company, and an interesting presentation.

January 23, 2025, Club Meeting

We are delighted to have Morgan Scalley, Ute Football Defensive Coordinator/Head Coach in Waiting, speak to us on Thursday, January 23rd at 6:00 pm at the Alta Club.  A distinguished figure in collegiate football, Morgan has been an integral part of the University of Utah’s football program for over two decades. A former All-American safety for the Utes from 2001 to 2004, he earned accolades such as Mountain West Co-Defensive Player of the Year and was a two-time Academic All-American. Transitioning seamlessly into coaching, he began as an administrative assistant in 2006 and ascended to the role of defensive coordinator by 2016. Under his leadership, Utah’s defense has consistently ranked among the nation’s elite, with the team finishing second nationally in total defense in 2019.
In July 2024, the University of Utah announced Scalley as the head coach-in-waiting, positioning him to succeed Kyle Whittingham upon his retirement.  This decision underscores the university’s confidence in his leadership and vision for the program’s future. Beyond his professional achievements, Scalley is known for his commitment to the principles of RSNB—Relentless, Smart, Nasty, Ballhawks—which define the identity of Utah’s defense.
