The Timpanogos Club

Our speaker in February will be Dr. Keith N. Finlayson — one of our club members.  Keith is a well-known photographer, whose spectacular photography is often featured on local TV news broadcasts.  He also has expertise in the subject matter of LDS church photographs.  We look forward to hearing his presentation at our meeting on February 23rd.

The guest speaker for our January meeting will be Georges Bonnet.  He oversees the seismic stabilization and restoration of the Salt Lake Temple, Temple Square, and the plaza south of the Church office building, for the LDS Church.  We look forward to a fascinating presentation regarding this massive project, which is of great interest to all of us.  We hope to see everyone there!

Our speaker will be Kim Wilson, Chairman of the Ensign Peak Foundation, a group dedicated to preserving smaller LDS Church historical sites.   He is one of the founding trustees of the Mormon Historic Sites Foundation.

Kim earned a B.S. in Political Science from the University of Utah and a J.D. from the S.J. Quinney School of Law. He is a senior attorney with the Salt Lake City law firm of Snow, Christensen and Martineau where he specializes in business litigation. He accepted appointment from the Utah Supreme Court to serve the legal profession as Chairman of the Ethics and Discipline Committee of the Utah State Bar with responsibility for enforcement of the Rules of Professional Conduct among Utah’s licensed lawyers.

Kim has served in various positions in the Church. He is currently in the bishopric of his Salt Lake City Avenues ward.

He has been a lifetime student of Church History and has taken personal delight in the work of the Foundation over nearly two decades in preserving and perpetuating the rich history of the Restoration. When not engaged in his law practice and the work of the Foundation, he enjoys spending time with the large family he shares with his wife, Gail Miller Wilson. He loves to read, travel, build model wooden sailing ships, and digging a few postholes at his ranch in Cache Valley.

We are so pleased to have Dr. Stephen H. McKellar as our guest speaker in October.  Stephen received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the U of U, and his Doctor of Medicine degree from the George Washington University School of Medicine.  He completed his cardiothoracic surgical training at the Mayo Clinic, where he also received a Masters Degree of Biomedical Research from the Mayo Graduate School.  He currently practices in the field of general cardiac and thoracic surgery in Salt Lake City.  He is also a grandson of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints President Russell M. Nelson.  He will have a compelling message for us, and we are looking forward to hearing from him at our meeting in October.  See you there!

We are eager to hear from Blake Moore, the first term Representative from Utah’s First District.  Previously Blake worked abroad in business development in the healthcare and financial services industries, which led him to understand the challenges that small businesses grapple with on a daily basis.  Blake was also honored to serve in the Foreign Service for the U.S. Department of State, where he gained first-hand knowledge of the international threats that America faces.  He will give us great insight into the challenges our nation faces at home and abroad.  We look forward to being together again as we begin a new season of the Timpanogos Club!

Our final club meeting of the 2021-2022 season will be our traditional Dinner and Music with Spouse/Significant Other Night, this year featuring the magnificent singing of Jessica Sundwall Hudson and Jeffrey Sundwall.  Singing the lead part this May at the Hale Theater in “Light in the Piazza,” Jessica will join us at the Timpanogos Club on one of her nights off from the Hale production.  An extraordinary musician, she is a Theater Major at the BYU, and has sung major roles in a number of musicals.  Jeffrey Sundwall, also a fabulous singer, will sing with her, having sung and performed in several musical theatre performances in the past.  Look for a fabulous Alta Club dinner to be followed by wonderful music—it will be a night to remember!!! 

By way of reminder, we will meet at the Alta Club at 6 for socializing and oer d’oeuvres to be followed by dinner and our great musical program.  Parking will be available in the Alta Club lot, which is now about one-half block east of the Alta Club on the South Side of the street.

We will be pleased to have as our guest speaker Don Stirling, Executive Director for the Gail Miller Family Office.  Previously Don was Executive Vice President of Marketing and Communications for LHM Sports & Entertainment.  In that capacity he was responsible for the bid process and preparations for the 2023 NBA All-Star game, scheduled to be held in Utah.  His remarks will focus on the future of college and professional sports, a topic of great interest to us all.  Please join us — we look forward to being together on the 28th to hear Don’s thoughts on this topic.

We look forward to hearing from Jonathan Johnson, president of the More Good Foundation, an organization that supports the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in digital messaging and reputation management.  He is also involved in corporate consulting.  Highlighted as one of 50 fabulous people in Utah Valley, he is also recognized as “one of 40 entrepreneurs to watch under 40 years old.”  His talk will be most uplifting and enlightening!

Next month, on March 24th, we will hear from U. S. Congressman Blake Moore.  We look forward to seeing you all!

We are excited to have as our guest speaker Anil Seth, PhD, an internationally renowned astrophysicist and astronomer at the University of Utah.  Dr. Seth will show us the incredible new astronomical findings from recent years in our solar system and the universe beyond, including hundreds of stars with earth-like planets spinning around them, black holes, and we shall even learn about parallel other universes!!  We look forward to seeing everyone in the new year, and hearing about this exciting topic.
